Holly Dillon & Lianne Hunter

Two of UK’s leading Psoriasis influencers join forces to launch series of community events

29 th October, London – In celebration of World Psoriasis Day, and UK Psoriasis Awareness Week (29 th October to 5 th November), two of the UK’s leading skin influencers and health campaigners have come together to launch ‘#GetYourSkinOut events’ – a series of free to attend community events for people with, and wanting to know more about living with the skin condition, Psoriasis.

Aimed at bringing the Psoriasis community together, the first in a series of nationwide events will take place on February 4 th 2017 in central London. Here, Holly and Lianne together with a series of external speakers including Simon Oats from Mind & Skin – the leading psychodermatology charity, will host a series of discussions and conversations with attendees, providing information, advice and a sounding board for those wanting to know more about the physical and psychological impacts of living with Psoriasis.

Holly Dillon, founder of #GetYourSkinOut comments, “#GetYourSkinOut Events feels like the natural next step for this campaign. It’s about bringing people together and empowering them to feel comfortable in their own skin, whether that’s online or face to face. Lianne and I share the same mission, so it made sense to team up to launch this series of events so we can bring our communities together and share the information and knowledge we have both learnt so far.

We plan to use our contacts to bring the community access to leading dermatologist, mental health experts, nutritional therapists, sex experts, lifestyle coaches and skin care and pharmaceutical brands to give our community the information they want and need.“

Lianne Hunter, founder of FixMyPsoriasis comments: “Psoriasis can be a very tough thing to deal with at any age, both physically and mentally. Events like these are needed to bring the community together and to starting a conversation around the wider effects of psoriasis like mental health. We want to create an environment that feels safe and welcoming, allowing both those with Psoriasis and their family, friends and loved ones to come along to learn about the different ways that the condition can be treated and managed.”

Lianne continues: “Our first #GetYourSkinOut event will be held in London in February and we plan to run a further three events in 2017 but so far the locations are undecided. We want to let our community decide through the feedback we receive on the Facebook page.”

Collectively, Holly and Lianne have amassed over 12,223 followers across their dedicated Instagram and Twitter pages, each being listed as leading influencers in changing the perception of skin conditions by titles including Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan and have both featured in articles alongside Kim Kardashian when she revealed that Psoriasis was nothing to be ashamed of earlier this year. By sharing photographs of their skin and insights into their daily lives in the hope that they can encourage others to feel comfortable in their own skin, their stories have also been featured in leading titles across Europe, and around the world.

Despite over 2% of the UK population and 125 million people worldwide diagnosed with Psoriasis, including celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Cara Delevingne and Ciana Rae Nelson who speak openly about the impact it has on their lives and the need for public acceptance, the condition still lacks public awareness and remains misunderstood in comparison to other skin conditions such as eczema and vitiligo. It is this lack of awareness that drives both Holly and Lianne forward on their missions to break down misconceptions such as that Psoriasis being contagious and empower everybody with the condition to feel comfortable in their own skin.

You can sign up for tickets on the eventbrite page here. Further details of the event will be shared on the GetYourSkinOut Facebook page within the next few months.
