Why fear, when there’s nothing at stake

Fear is one of the most overwhelming and negative emotions that overcomes and envelopes us all. Ironically, it is the single biggest unifier and affects all social classes and crosses all demographic and geographic boundaries. It is the basis of all negative actions taken by all human beings and even the countries at large and therefore the most divisive of all forces. It is the biggest baggage we carry and presents itself in a variety of manifestations such as hatred, jealousy, lust, desire and greed. In fact, it won’t be an exaggeration if one were to say that to conquer one’s own self and win the world, one has to conquer one’s fear.

Depending on our value systems, we at a subconscious level, encourage one of the Plato’s two horses that command the progression of our souls and in turn our destiny. The white horse moves us onwards, while the dark one pulls us back. Therefore be careful, which one of these you encourage, because your story is unfolding as you travel and there is scope for writing the script as you go. The more you side with the dark horse, the more you are likely to delve back into the past and to tie yourself to your circumstances. You unwittingly would create a self that is shackled in the ties of negative and toxic emotions and which makes us non-propulsive. Such an egoistic self is always fearful of loss, lustful of gain, suspicious of situations/people, uses yardstick of power, influence, money and other worldly possessions to gauge the self and people and is inherently insecure. Self-interest may be the only motivating factor for such a self and manifests itself as duplicity and cowardice. Such a self is a loser.

Those of us who encourage the white horse, in turn, tie ourselves not to our circumstances, but only to our potential. If we are aspirational, we must aim to constantly believe that we are in that realm already, where humility and courage obligatorily coexist as a hallmark of integrity and manifests as abundance mentality. Such a self is eager for new frontiers, curious to break the existing paradigms, comprehensively proactive, interdependent, reliant on truth and plugged into higher consciousness. Such a self is internally secure and motivated from within and draws inspiration from one’s own soul and the collective consciousness. Such a self is a winner and reflects who one really is and aspires to be.

Our value system necessarily implores us to love endlessly, to connect boundlessly and to share abundantly with no agenda. It asks us to remain humble while believing at the same time that we are second to none in an increasingly interdependent world and that we are capable of achieving anything at all by delving deep into our own selves and then connecting with the other from a position of strength as a true leader. We can only overcome our fears by knowing that the world is an illusion and that our reality is created in our projection of our thoughts. Any illusion by definition is impermanent and hence, when broken or revealed, demonstrates to us that nothing is permanent, that we own nothing and that really nothing is at stake.

So let’s shed all our fears. Rather than the classic avoidance response, let’s embrace our inadequacies and our fears, accommodate them and deal with them, internalise them and find spiritual permanent solutions to them. Base our responses to our fears on our true potentiality and expanded awareness rather than on our current situations or feelings which would only contract our awareness and limit us. Do not run after external rewards, because the real rewards are to be gained inside of you and emanating from the possibilities within you.
