Dr Neela Shabde #WHIS Team

 

Neela is a consultant paediatrician by background and worked as Clinical Director responsible for managing Acute, Community and Child mental health services  in a well known Trust in the North East Of England for a number of years until January 2011 when she joined Children’s health commissioning team in Cumbria initially as Medical Director in Cumbria PCT and latterly as Clinical Director for Children and Families, NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group. She recently retired from the NHS at the end of March 2016 .She brings over 35 years’ of professional experience and expertise in the NHS , which includes safeguarding children roles such as Named and Designated Doctor, expert witness in safeguarding cases .

Neela also led a project team on behalf of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in the UK and has developed child protection training courses : Safeguarding Children – Child protection : Response & Recognition  and Child protection in Practice for paediatric trainees in collaboration with the Advanced Life Support Group (Education charity )and NSPCC. She is an accredited trainer. She has had extensive experience of multiagency working and has contributed to different regional and national committees on children’s health, safeguarding and family justice issues. She very much enjoys partnership working.

She has a keen interest in promoting multi-agency child protection training nationally and overseas and has contributed to such programmes in Nicaragua, India, Egypt, Irish Republic, Al Ain & Nepal.

She was award the honorary membership of the Council of the National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children ( NSPCC)in recognition of her work nationally in developing training programmes for paediatric trainees. Recently she was also been awarded the honorary membership of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal College of Physicians,UK in recognition of her contribution and advocacy in field of child public health .

She is passionate and committed to improving children and young people’s health and wellbeing outcomes, their experience and access to services. She is totally committed to the preventive approach to Children & Young people’s health and wellbeing .

Her pride and joy are her two delightful granddaughters aged 8 and 6 years old.
