My Mission
My mission is to change the face of mental health in schools, to work towards getting emotional intelligence into the curriculum, because it is a crucial subject that needs to be taught to enable children to have the knowledge of how to create greater emotional health and wellbeing. This naturally leads to more success in life, in academic achievement, in relationships and with themselves.
About Me
I am married and a mum to 3 amazing children – Chloe 8, Adam 18 & Katie 20. Both my own children and all the children I have had the pleasure to teach over the years have been my teachers and inspiration! I am a Parent Governor at an infant school in Arnold, and I have recently been asked to be Patron of the Shaw Mind Foundation.
My Journey
As a teenager my mental health was poor, my self esteem & confidence was very low and I struggled through my teen years and as a young adult dealing with my emotions. I traumatically lost my uncle when I was 10yrs old and my grief was suppressed, at home I was often angry, at school I was withdrawn and very shy. Over time this led to depression which carried on into adulthood undiscovered until I was in my 30s.
However, through attending yoga classes, I began my journey to becoming self aware and understanding myself at a deeper level. Through my love of yoga, I decided to train as a children’s yoga teacher. I also trained in basic counselling skills, and took part in a deeply life transformational self development programme where I gained deeper realisations about myself and I began to take responsibility of my emotions and I feel so blessed to have transformed my life into a very positive, happy one!
Kidsskills4life
Kidsskills4life came to life 5 years ago, as a mission to provide young people with an education in emotional intelligence, during which time I have been lucky enough to collaborate and train with some inspiring people, experts in their field to help create programmes using Emotional Intelligence, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Whole Brain Integration, NLP & Yoga Techniques. I ran programmes for children within Nottingham schools.
Empower Education
Over the last two years, there were various conclusions that not only was it that the children needed the training, teens, young adults, teachers, and parents needed it also. Then it was realised that the scope of the business had to be increased to cover the observed fuller need/requirements.
The evolution to change the name to Empower Education came about to support this need. I now offer programmes/workshops in schools and also in the community.
Web-Being Hub for Families & Schools
A new venture I have recently launched is the Well-Being Hub for Families & Schools, a hub of independent specialists supporting the emotional and physical wellbeing of children, teens, parents & teachers. We offer 1-1 sessions, workshops, talks, group sessions for families, schools and organisations and I am currently looking into creating this as a charity that can take referrals from organisations and provide a wider service than that currently available within the NHS.
