Maxine is a Survivor of ‘Childhood Sexual/Physical/Psychological/Incest Abuse & Rape’.  Abused from the age of eight yrs old until her escape at the age of 26 yrs.  The trauma and Impact on her mental health and well-being looking very bleak.

Maxine accessed NHS services, and for the next 33 yrs she was treated by therapeutic and psychiatric care from the age of 14 ½ years, until she was handed a leaflet from her Solicitor (2004), unbeknown to her, her Solicitor was a Trustee for a Charity.  For the next eight and half years Maxine looked after the leaflet, she would carefully read the leaflet and then carefully fold it away in a safe place.   After a breakdown, she accessed the ‘Charity’, supporting female survivors in February 2010.   Maxine realised she was not alone; she was able to express her feelings in a safe and non-judgemental environment.  It was decided that Creative Therapy would benefit her healing and recovery, within a matter of eight months she was told she no longer needed to access support services as she had outgrown her support and therapy.   Six weeks moving on she was asked to be ‘Chair’ of the Charity on accepting the position; she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and is now five years in remission. Through shear determination, strength, positivity and faith contributing once again to her recovery.

My passion, love and drive to change victims/survivors life,  being able to put a smile on a victims/survivors face, hold a hand, telling them it’s okay to cry, it’s okay to smile, to those who live in fear,  who are isolated,  who do not trust those around them truly fills my heart.  I am very humbled, and know what it is like to be alone.

It is an honour and pleasure to have been invited and chosen to be on the ‘’Survivor Advisory Panel for the NCSC.  I will be committed in helping to improve the response to victims/survivors.

It is also another honour to be asked and invited to become an Ambassador to WHIS.  –  It is a priority that we achieve a thorough , and integrated health care service.   Early Intervention and Provision to improve the health and well-being to our communities.  Improving and maximising a health care service between providers within our health and social care settings, leading to more effective as well as preventative treatments, will lead to an assured positive recovery,
